Individual Therapy

At Cardinal Psychotherapy, we believe the purpose of therapy is not to remove or deny suffering, but to understand it and move through it in ways that lead to deeper self-understanding, increased consciousness, and personal power.

By examining your life history, memories, learned attitudes, and behaviors, you will gain insight into the limiting beliefs and habits that block you.

We will help you go deep below the surface to deconstruct and challenge the emotional hurdles that hold you back. Through this integrative, mindfulness-based approach, you can gain a deeper appreciation and understanding of your life events, leading to a greater capacity for compassion, self-love, and joy.

Trauma

Unresolved and unprocessed trauma can embed deeply within us, resulting in issues that we carry long into adulthood: anger, shame, anxiety, depression, addiction, and more. Examining your past traumas and internal conflicts is a powerful path to profound self-understanding and expansion. Our therapists work gently and collaboratively to help you work through past trauma in a way that is meaningful and empowering for you. Some of our therapists also use EMDR therapy to help individuals heal from memories of traumatic events. Read more about EMDR here

Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety and depression are our body’s natural expression of a desire for healing and transformation. Your thoughts and behaviors are symbolic and meaningful expressions of the pain you feel inside. Rather than repress or eliminate these feelings, it’s best to understand the origin and nature of the deeper wounds and fears they represent. As part of your therapy, you will learn to identify and change the negative beliefs and habits that keep you from moving forward on your chosen path.

Sexuality

It is common for people to struggle with issues around sexuality, sexual self-concept, gender and gender identity, sexual identification, past sexual trauma, sexual orientation, and sexual self-esteem. Yet one of the greatest expressions of our humanity, creativity, and individuality is through our sexual self-expression. Learn to identify and challenge the boxes, compartments, and expectations that imprison you and help you emerge into your true sexual expression and potential, a powerful experience leading you to the unveiling of the deeper self.

Addictions and Co-occuring Disorders

Addictions, whether it be food, gambling, sex, or chemical, are often a coping mechanism for dealing with underlying feelings of anxiety, depression, and powerlessness. An important part of recovering from addictions is identifying underlying reasons for your unhappiness while finding a sense of greater meaning in your struggle. We utilize holistic approaches designed to tap into your internal resilience and help you achieve constructive change, self-efficacy, and personal empowerment.
